Sesshomaru and Inuyasha
Well, I brought the Inuyasha calendar to work and left the FullMetal Alchemist one at home, mainly because John said he's seen FMA stuff less. Avalon tried to cabbage onto it last night and hang it up in her room; I think that crush on the animated Edward Elric she had when she was two is reviving itself.

Meanwhile, I noted that Sesshomaru is the image for January, and I was lamenting that he'll only be up there for two more weeks (although he does show up again in April). However, now that he's hanging up behind my monitor, I'm noticing that he is staring at me....it's one of those images where the eyes follow you around. It's actually a little uncomfortable. He has a tiny, tiny smile. Or most likely a smirk.

I think he's enjoying this. Dammit.

And because I have managed to see the animated "Grinch Who Stole Xmas" about four times in the last few days on various channels, I am reminded of this; it's been in my sadly neglected favorites gallery at DA for awhile.

The Grinch Who Got a Black Eye...

Although she says that's actually the Jim-Carey-in-a-suit Grinch, because she loves the animated one.

Funny, I always couldn't wait to see that one every year as well, and even taped it one year in case I missed it. Now it seems to be on a half dozen different channels, several different times.

It's the full moon today. Almost every culture has its share of lunar lore, from werewolves to lunacy to true love. Do you believe that the full moon affects our behavior or do you think it's a myth?

It certainly affects animal behavior - just look at grunion runs. There are all kinds of animals whose reprduction is tied to lunar cycles - including humans. Why do think Aunt Flo visits once a month? I have no doubt it affects human behavior as well - seems to be pretty well documented in emergency rooms. That tidal pull affects more than just the ocean.

As far as the werewolf thing, it always tickled me that in Inuyasha it was just the opposite. Since he was half dog-demon most of the time, he turned completely human during the dark of the moon.

Blue-eyed Chibi Sesshoumaru

Angus's Sesshomaru costume wasn't quite finished when the cheap $40 sewing machine I bought to work on it started messing up all the stitches, but it was good enough for trick-or-treating (since most people who saw him wouldn't know who he was supposed to be anyhow). The wig is supposed to be white, but this was the nearest thing I could find, besides being the longest. And I had to take off the bow, because it was supposed to go with a sexy grown-up Alice in Wonderland costume. The pointy ears are made with band-aids - I fouind a website that had quickie pointy-ears and other costume shortcuts. Unfortunately, all of his cardboard armor fell apart while we were walking around. I still want to finish it so he can wear it to Anime Expo, should we go next year.

I think he's trying to look threatening.

I fail; I have yet to take a pic of all three of them together. Avalon wore her Tae Kwon Do gi, and Gareth was Teddy Roosevelt again.

Actually, my daughter gave me this - they have a little gift boutique for the kids to buy presents with at school. Avalon had a dollar left over from her lunch and decided to get me this. I don't wear it very often, but purple is acceptable (I thought the bottle looked like the one in the old "I Dream of Jeannie").

Pondering on demon dogs...

Sesshomaru and Inuyasha
(The following bit of fluffy insanity was written several months ago after an Inuyasha movie marathon and waaay too much coffee.  Forgive me.)

Indulge me if I go off on some Inuyasha musings. Inuyasha, being an anime series about a modern-day girl who falls down a well to find herself in feudal Japan and the companion of a long-haired boy who, strangely enough, has dog ears (go here, for the unfamiliar curious). This post is not about the girl.

Yeah, I know, I keep hearing it's a tired series, it's gone on too long, it's repeating itself, the ending of the anime is frustrating (the story is supposed to continue in the manga).  I actually missed quite a few of the last airings because I never remembered when it was on, and frankly one fight with an evil demon is much the same as another (and does anyone else besides me feel faintly embarassed that every anime character has to scream out really silly attack names during a fight?).  However, it generates some wonderful fanart, and just recently a couple of wonderfully written stories by a fanfiction author who calls herself "Resmiranda" have made it difficult for me to get "stupid, stupid, pretty hair" out of my head recently (although perhaps that's a topic for another post).  The airing of the third movie on CN didn't help much either.  Entirely too little of their father in it, dammit.

 Anyhow...

Pondering # 1: Demon toughness... )

Pondering #2: Dogs...all-powerful? )

Pondering #3: Does Sesshomaru smell doggy? )

Pondering #4: The color of his stripes...or placement, rather... )

Pondering #5: Hybrid vigor...or not... )
